Preschool Philosophy

Method of Teaching

 Instruction through thematic units is being utilized in the Early Childhood Department that develops the potential of students in a holistic and integrated manner, catering to their intellectual, physical and emotional needs. This method of teaching enriches their cognitive, social, and physical skills. Thematic concepts are introduced beginning with the child himself then they transcend to the world around him. The teachers’ role is that of a facilitator and a manager who guides the child throughout his learning process.
 
Learning Centers
 
Children rotate between centers inside the classroom and visit the Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Block and Manipulatives, Art, and Dramatic centers throughout the day. The teacher observes every child both assessing and evaluating their productivity. Children further interact with their peers at the center and learn to take turns.
 
 
The Computer Center
 
Computer application is a necessary skill utilized in teaching. Nursery use educational multimedia programs, whereas KG1 and KG2 learn the Futurekids software curriculum. Al Bashaer School is the first school to apply the Futurekids curriculum in Syria.
 
ECD Curriculum
 
The curriculum introduces the English or French language with emphasis on Information Technology so that students can interact with the outside world on an ongoing continuum.
 
In order to provide a curriculum that addresses the individual needs of children, a self-directed learning environment has been deployed within the program. A classroom can thus be arranged in any way allowing students to:
-perceive what activities are available
-make their own choices of which activities to pursue
-become deeply involved in their own learning
 
Classroom Size
 
No more than 23 students are to be enrolled in an Early Childhood classroom, with a ratio of 1:6 in Nursery, 1:8 in KG1, and 1:10 in KG2.
